Children's Learning Center at Walnut Grove Baptist Church

Our Environment:

Walnut Grove Baptist Church built a beautiful Sunday School addition designed especially for young children.  The Pre-School program of the Children's Learning Center shares this space.  After Schoolers meet in the Education Building of the church.  The Center is an outreach ministry of the Church.  While attendance at worship services and church membership are not a requirement for enrollment, our sincere hope is that families of the Center will feel welcome to participate in the many activities and services of the Church.

Our Program:

Recognizing that God has created each person in a unique way, we strive to meet the individual needs of every child in our care.  Our purpose is to offer a program that will aid in the development of social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional skills along with a spiritual awareness. Our program is:

  • Center-based, using Blocks, Free Art, Home Living, Listening, Library, Manipulatives, Music and Discovery Centers.
  • Structured with a thematic curriculum, including seasons, holidays, numbers, letters, shapes, colors, etc.
  • Process-oriented, recognizing the value of the process not just the product.
  • Developmentally appropriate.

Our Mission:

Families today face so many challenges.

  • Single parenthood
  • Working couples struggling to make ends meet
  • Grandparents raising their children's children

At Walnut Grove, we strive to relieve some of these challenges by providing childcare and education in a loving, supportive environment.

To Make This Happen, We Offer:

  • Year-round pre-school education for children aged 3 to 5 years old (toilet trained)
  • Before and after school programs for children in grades K-5 who attend Mechanicsville and Cold Harbor Elementary schools.
  • A full-time summer program for children who have completed grades K-5.
  • Teachers who participate in regular training programs to update their skills and gain new ideas.
