YOU CAN BE A PART OF THESE!!! HOW??
The Deacons at Walnut Grove comprise five teams that are fundamental in providing care and vision for our members. The teams are Benevolence, Crisis, Visitation, Discovery and Strategic Planning. Our vision with these teams is to provide an opportunity for the congregation at-large to join us in these ministries to better serve our community and our members.
We encourage you to take a few moments and read about each one of these ministry teams and decide if you have the gifts and passions that would benefit one of them. If so, you are encouraged to contact one of the members of the team and tell them you would like to join them in their ministry.
The Benevolence Team monitors requests for financial help from people both inside and outside of our church. Church members with special financial needs are referred by the church office to the team for resolution. People within our community with financial concerns are referred to MCEF (Mechanicsville Churches Emergency Fund) for resolution. Our church has recently become a member of this organization.
If you know of someone with a special financial need, please contact the church office and they will refer them to our team. If you would like to help out MCEF with donations that would benefit those in need, please see the list posted on our bulletin boards of locations and items that can be donated.

The Crisis Team is available to meet the needs of those within our church who are suffering from a range of issues including the death of a loved one, a serious illness, an operation or an accident, as examples. The Team contacts the families, visits funeral homes and/or attends funerals, make hospital or home visits as warranted and follows-up with cards, calls or visits.
If you know of someone with a special issue currently in their life, please contact our staff or one of our team members, based on the confidentiality of the situation. The Crisis Team desires to offer as much support as possible to our members in times of need. If you have experience in handling crisis situations or have crisis training, can handle confidentiality, and love to support and encourage people, we would love to talk to you about joining our team.

The Discovery Team is responsible for inviting prospective members to Quarterly classes where they can learn all about Walnut Grove (e.g. meet the staff, brief history of church, Baptist principles, etc.) and then take a tour of our facilities. The Discovery Team hosts Celebration Sundays on a quarterly basis to present new members.
The Discovery Team welcomes input from our members on people they believe would be interested in the classes and would like for our members to encourage visitors to attend and find out more about Walnut Grove. Also, we are interested in members of our church joining our team who would be interested in: contacting people about the classes, helping with the classes and/or Celebration Sundays, or coming up with new and creative ideas to reach out to our prospects.

What is the Deacon of the Month?
Each month you will see posted two deacons designated as Deacon of the Month. Why?? Several years ago the deacons decided that it would be helpful to the congregation to have two deacons each month that our members could call on to report any needs, concerns, etc. These deacons can forward all information from calls to the appropriate teams or staff so that the needs can be met the best way possible. These deacons each month will also be especially watchful of new members coming forward during worship services. We try to choose one deacon to represent each of our worship services. Please feel free to call on these deacons at any time during their special month of service.

The Strategic Planning team focuses on looking beyond the current month/year for planning purposes of our ministries and facilities. The team looks at our vision for future growth and outreach for Walnut Grove.
We encourage our members to volunteer for special teams that form on certain issues such as space planning and to participate in focus groups held throughout the year. If you have a real desire to help our church move forward in reaching out to our community, we would love to talk to you about joining our team.
The Visitation Team functions to reach out to our members and their families who are sick and in the hospital. The team calls on members who are in the hospital, sends cards to the sick and makes phone calls concerning their health. The Team welcomes information from our church members who know of someone facing health issues. If you love to visit people and encourage them, we are looking for people to join our faithful team of visitors. Please make sure you notify one of our team members, the church office or one of our staff with names of those who need our attention.
