Phil Lawson has served Walnut Grove full-time since July 2006. He came here in August 2005 as part-time Interim Music Director. Before coming to Walnut Grove, Phil served as Associate Minister of Music at Mount Vernon Baptist in Glen Allen.

Phil received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from James Madison University and is currently working towards his Master of Divinity in Church Music at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.

Before coming to Walnut Grove full-time, Phil taught choral music at Clover Hill High School in Chesterfield County for seven years. While there, he maintained a large choral program of over 200 students and led his choirs to many high ratings and top placings at festivals and competitions throughout the region. He is excited about making this new transition to a new calling in music ministry.

Phil and his wife, Sandy, have two children, Anna and Trevor.
