Blogs clog the web. Why have another? Well, this will be a way to interact. "Rayford's Ramblings" was the title of my articles in the newsletters of the churches I've served as pastor, including Walnut Grove. Frequently, people wanted to respond but it took a while to get the correspondence. The beauty in blogs lies in interactivity. Also, this blog can serve as a sort of "ask the pastor anything you've ever wanted to ask about matters of faith" and we can dialogue about it. Why not try it?

My first thoughts are that if we keep doing "church" the way we have always done "church" then the church will die because there is no way we can keep up with the changes that are happening in our world. The church will have to keep up with technology to reach people where they are. Multiple visitors that have come to WG have said that they found us throught he internet. Our Web site has to be current. To me,the thought of how to keep up is overwhelming, even scary. I don't have the knowledge. Yet the internet can be a fantastic tool for reaching others. I don't have answers. I just know that I have to be open to change. We have to meet the lost where they are and more and more that is in cyberspace.
That was pretty cool. While I can identify with a lot of those things (ie: using a computer when I was 5 and meeting my husband on match.com), I have to admit that the way technology is rapidly developing, it is scary to think about how to keep up. I guess we can just remember to take things as they come and if keeping up with technology isn't our spiritual gift, find someone who is in the know!
I agree with Anita - we have to reach people wherever they are. Our website is our "front door" and we have to keep it current and welcoming (great job Pam and all who work on it!).
